Lawton & Cates, S.C., of Madison will acquire the law practice areas of Krek & Associates, S.C. effective Thursday, September 1.

Attorney Raymond Krek recently passed away. The acquisition is taking place upon his wife, Gayle Krek's request.

"Raymond Krek was well known on a statewide basis for strong advocacy of his clients. We are honored that the Krek family trusts us to carry on Raymond Krek's tradition of providing top-notch legal services in a welcoming environment," stated Ginger L. Murray, President of Lawton & Cates, S.C.

Attorneys Rassa Ahmadi and Nick Watt, along with paralegal Cindy Nash, have joined Lawton & Cates and will continue operating out of the new Lawton & Cates office in Jefferson, located at 323 Whitewater Ave. (the former Krek & Associates Law Office).

"I believe that the move to Lawton & Cates will be beneficial both for clients and for the attorneys who will be moving into the firm," said Gayle Krek, president of Krek & Associates, S.C. "The new firm will offer access to several experienced lawyers across many practice areas."

"The additional depth in both the number of attorneys and the greater variety of expertise will undoubtedly better serve all of our clients," she added.

John A. Lawton and Richard L. Cates established Lawton & Cates in 1958. Lawton was actively involved with labor law and union work. Cates established the firm's litigation practice. Throughout the years, Lawton & Cates has served clients throughout Wisconsin in court and administrative hearings covering all areas of legal dispute. The firm represents the injured, workers, consumers and businesses.

The firm's attorneys have achieved national and local recognition. The firm is included in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and has been rated "AV," the highest rating possible.

"Lawton & Cates looks forward to having a presence and serving clients in Jefferson County," stated Murray.

"Our advocacy on behalf of consumers, working people, and professionals in Jefferson County will be enhanced by our joining Lawton & Cates," said Watt.

"It is an honor for us to associate with a well established firm that has maintained a solid reputation in the legal profession and community," Ahmadi added.

Gayle Krek said she believes this is the right fit.

"Raymond would be very pleased to know Lawton & Cates acquired his practice areas. He had high regard for the firm," she concluded.
