Do Adoptions Require an Experienced Family Law Attorney?

If you or a family member are considering adoption, please understand that it is important to get an experienced family law attorney with specific experience in adoptions as soon as possible. There are very few situations that are more heartbreaking than when an adoption is taken up to the Court of Appeals and the Court of Appeals reverses the adoption. It is important to seek out an attorney that understands the role they play in the adoption process. There are several different attorneys that will be involved in the adoption. There will likely be an attorney to represent the intended adoptive parent. There should also be an attorney involved that represents the interest of the biological parent who is having his or her parental rights terminated. In addition, there will be an attorney appointed by the court to serve as a guardian ad litem and represent the interests of the child that is intending to be adopted. These matters are very technical and it is important that you have an attorney that understands the ins and outs of the adoption process.
