How can I help to make my divorce less costly?
One of the things I pride myself on as a family law practitioner is helping my clients to avoid excessive cost in divorce. I've had many clients that talk about their spouses attorney and how expensive their bills are and things like that and they're often pleased with me that mine aren't anywhere near their exorbitant costs. Little things can help prevent costs from getting escalated. One thing is if you're going to call and you have lots of questions, write them down. That way when you talk to me, we can move through them quickly and be done with them. Rather than calling each day with one question and than going through a whole week with five or six different calls. So that's one thing that can help. Another thing that can help is once you get the initial advice from me, after you've hired me you might have an opportunity to talk with your spouse and work out many of the matters that will only require us to reduce it to writing, and get it entered as a judgement by the court. Those two factors are, in my opinion, some of the biggest driving factors with cost and divorce. If you deal with those two issues appropriately, you can reduce the cost of divorce.
