What are the effects of a spouse being in active military duty?

You can file for a divorce or legal separation when your spouse is on active military duty. However there is an act that protects service members and allows them to save civil proceedings until they complete their active military service. A stay means the proceedings are put on hold. However a service member can wave this stay and proceedings can continue.
