Daniel Bach is an experienced litigator who practices out of both the Madison and Jefferson offices of Lawton & Cates. His primary area of practice is civil litigation, with a focus on representing property owners in eminent domain cases and contested matters involving real estate. Dan also has represented numerous individuals in contract, employment, business and tax related disputes, as well as the defense of criminal charges.

Dan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance in 1980 with a degree in Economics. He received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984, then served as a law clerk for United States District Judge Robert W. Warren. From 1986-2000 he was an assistant United States attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, with a term as Special Counsel to the United States Sentencing Commission in 1991-92.

Dan entered private practice in 2000. He was appointed Deputy Attorney General of Wisconsin in 2003. He returned to private practice in 2007 where he has enjoyed the opportunity to use his diverse professional background to assist his clients. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Wisconsin as well as the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Dan’s volunteer work includes serving as president of a lake protective association, as a member of two land use planning committees, as a board member of the Kettle Moraine Land Trust, and as an ombudsman for the United States Department of Defense helping secure the rights of military personnel returning to civilian employment. Dan also was elected to two terms on the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Wisconsin.
