David M. Stegall

Attorney

David M. Stegall is a shareholder at Lawton Cates who was admitted to the Wisconsin Bar in 2006 after graduating cum laude from Marquette University Law School. David began his legal career by working as an Assistant District Attorney in Milwaukee County. In his role as a prosecutor, David litigated hundreds of cases and served as the lead prosecutor in well over 40 jury trials ranging from misdemeanors through the most serious felony cases.

David left the District Attorney’s office so he could focus on helping people achieve justice. In private practice, David focuses 100% on litigation. In David’s criminal practice he has successfully obtained not guilty verdicts in high stakes cases ranging from Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, Sexual Assault, and OWI among others.

David literally helped write the book on OWI defense as he co-authored, The Defense of Alcohol-Related Driving Offenses, Traffic Law and Practice, for the Wisconsin State Bar. This publication is relied upon by judges and lawyers throughout Wisconsin as the definitive guide to this area of the law.

David is also a Board Certified Criminal Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Approximately three percent of American lawyers are board-certified, and David is a member of a very select group who has taken the time to prove competence and earn this distinction.

In David’s civil practice, he focuses on being a zealous advocate for the rights of injured persons. David has represented victims of car accidents, dog bites, and work-related injuries. David has consistently achieved great results of his clients, including at trial. You can read more about David's prior results here.

David's track record of obtaining outstanding results in the courtroom is also evidenced by his many satisfied clients. You can read what current and former clients had to say about David here.

Prior to attending law school, David served in the United States Army as a Cavalry Officer stationed at various posts throughout the United States. David is a passionate supporter of our military veterans and proudly serves on the Veteran’s Advisory Board. In addition, David volunteers at the Veteran’s Law Center and remains active in other veteran’s causes.
