UFCW Local 538 workers successful in wage claims

(Madison Wisconsin) Federal District Court Judge Crabb entered an order finding that Kraft Foods Global, Inc. violated Wisconsin law by failing to pay workers wages for putting on and taking off employer mandated gear. The court found that it was undisputed that Kraft required its workers to put on safety gear, and other protective clothing without paying the workers. Kraft has agreed that the damages for the violation are in excess of $2,000,000.

Lawton Cates, S.C. filed suit in 2007 to force Kraft to pay these wages.

Kraft tried to dismiss the suit on three separate occasions. The district court denied these attempts, and ultimately ruled in favor of the workers.

The next step in the process is either an appeal to the 7th circuit court of appeals or payment of the agreed upon damages. Kraft has 30 days to initiate any appeal.
